Es in us

Id (German: Es)

The Id comprises the unorganized part of the personality structure that contains the basic drives.
The Id is unconscious by definition.

"It is the dark, inaccessible part of our personality, what little we know of it we have learnt from our study of the Dream-work and of the construction of neurotic symptoms, and most of this is of a negative character and can be described only as a contrast to the ego. We all approach the id with analogies: we call it a chaos, a cauldron full of seething excitations ... It is filled with energy reaching it from the instincts, but it has no organization, produces no collective will, but only a striving to bring about the satisfaction of the instinctual needs subject to the observance of the pleasure principle.
[Freud, New Introductory Lectures on Psychoanalysis (1933)]

<Wikipedia-English "Id,ego,and super-ego" >

Es is our real feelings, real desires, and real impulses.

We all have Es inside us.

  1. That photograph is such a good symbol for the "Es".... I don't know if that's what you intended, but I think that's crazy!

  2. Thanks Chris,
Actually I took this photo few months ago but I noticed the atmosphere quite suits what I want to write about today.
I'm very glad to receive your sweet comment. Thanks a lot!!

  3. Your photo shows us the gateway to a labyrinth (a dark underground passage). It is the same gateway guarded by lion-dogs and "oni" in Japan. The Greek myth of the Minotar also shows us its magic. It is the same place that Urashima-taro went - and returned an old man. It is the source of all life. Forget Freud - Read Carl Jung.

  4. Bob, you're such a great teacher for me. I titled this picture "the gateway to a labyrinth." It always looks attractive...but can be very dangerous.(Like Urashima-taro got in trouble!)
The Greek myth sounds really interesting. I know some stories but I want to learn more and find a new way of my thinking.
You seem want to say pretty more about philosophy!...I like Jung but I cannot exactly tell what is the different between Freud and Jung...!
